Grass-leaved goldenrod is named for its narrow foliage that sets it apart in appearance from other goldenrods. It has a tall, upright habit, though it branches prolifically at the top which gives it a bushy look. In its ideal conditions- full sun and moist soil- grass-leaved goldenrod can grow up to six feet tall and spread aggressively through rhizomes. Therefore, it may overwhelm small gardens but it is well-suited to wetland restoration projects, naturalized meadows, and wet garden borders. Its flowers and foliage host an abundance and diversity of insect fauna, notably the goldenrod soldier beetle and the black blister beetle. Additionally, its seeds are occasionally eaten by goldfinches and swamp sparrows.
