White snakeroot is a common woodland plant preferring full sun to part shade and slightly disturbed, rich, moist soil, though it can tolerate drier soils as well. Its delicate clusters of flowers hold their bright white color from summer late into the season, often past the first frost. White snakeroot is a prolific self-seeder and grows by rhizomes, so it can quickly fill in disturbed areas and appear weedy. However, when other native plants are established, white snakeroot coexists healthily with other species. White snakeroot is toxic to mammals and resists most mammalian herbivory.
