Pointed-leaved tick-trefoil is a woodland perennial that prefers partial to full shade and rich soil with medium moisture. It has a single thin stem whorled at the base with pointed trifoliate leaves. Bright pink pea flowers attach to its thin flowering stalk in intervals attracting butterflies in midsummer. Pointed-leaved tick trefoil is a larval host plant for the eastern tailed blue and the silver-spotted skipper. Its sticky seeds which succeed its flowers are eaten by a variety of wildlife. As a member of the legume family, this species harbors beneficial bacteria in its roots that allow it to fix nitrogen into the soil, improving soil quality.
