Lance leaf coreopsis is a short perennial that forms small clumps of basal lance-shaped leaves and a single flower stalk supporting a cheerful golden yellow flower about an inch in diameter. In full sun and dry or well-drained soils, this plant can prolifically self seed to form large, dense colonies. The spent early summer blooms can be deadheaded to encourage weeks of stunning floral displays and to reduce the rate of self-seeding. The lovely yellow flowers are enjoyed by a number of pollinators including bees, wasps, butterflies, moths, and beetles. This plant is also used as a larval host plant by multiple moth species including the wavy-lined emerald. Lance-leaf coreopsis is resistant to deer and drought, and makes an excellent addition to pollinator gardens, rock gardens, and prairies.
