Mistflower grows up to three feet tall with toothed triangular leaves and pale blue tufts of flowers forming nearly flat clusters at the top of the plant. In moist conditions and full to partial sunlight, mistflower can spread by rhizomes and self-seeding to form dense stands. In the late summer, mistflower blooms for at least five weeks until the first frost, it’s abundant blossoms gathered together like blue mist above the ground. This spectacular display is as attractive to pollinators as it is to people, drawing an impressive number of late season bees and butterflies. Mistflower is also a larval host for species such as the lined ruby tiger moth and the three-lined flower moth.
