Claytonia virginica - Spring Beauty - 3" Pot

Spring beauty, true to its name, delivers delicate yet dazzling displays early in the season. In partial sunlight and rich, well-drained soil, spring beauty spreads by seeding and underground corms to form loose clusters of single flowers daintily positioned atop short slender stems. Its flowers have five pale pink petals with darker pink stripes as well as pink stamens. After these flowers mature into small seed pods, the entire above ground part of the plant wilts away for the rest of the season, usually by midsummer. However, given the small stature of this plant, its ephemeral nature will not leave large gaps in plantings later in the season. The underground corms are edible and have a chestnut-like flavor.
