Spider milkweed boasts many of the same benefits as other milkweed species such as
attracting pollinators, hosting monarch caterpillars, and resisting drought and mammalian
herbivory. Its short, unbranching stems support wavy leaves and often one single cluster of
striking green flowers with purple centers. It spreads slightly but not as aggressively as other
milkweeds. Because of its short stature, it can be outcompeted when faced with pressure from
taller plants.
