Rose milkweed is a gorgeous clump-forming species of milkweed with attractive slender leaves and a rounded pink flowering cluster. It prefers wet to moist soils in full sun to part shade, but with its large taproot it can tolerate surprisingly well-drained soils. Like other milkweeds, rose milkweed is a host plant for the monarch butterfly, and it resists herbivory from deer an other mammals. It is also considered to be of special value to native bees. The genus name Asclepias comes from the Greek goddess of medicine, Asclepius, and the specific epithet incarnata means “flesh-colored,” referring to its flowers.
