Prairie Pussytoes is a wonderful low-growing groundcover option for dry, sandy soils in full sun to part shade. In ideal conditions it will spread by stolons, covering the ground in a mat of rounded basal rosettes. In the early summer it raises its short, pearly white flowering clusters that resemble cat feet, as its common name suggests. Some parts of the plant are toxic to mammals so it is typically avoided by herbivores such as deer and rabbits. However, it is a larval host plant for the painted lady butterfly.
