Purple giant hyssop can thrive in a variety of conditions though it requires some disturbance, and will eventually disappear from plantings without it. This beautiful mint family member can grow up to six feet tall and provides lasting interest with a long bloom time and brown seeds that cling to the plant throughout winter. The soft purple blooms are extremely attractive to many types of pollinators including the federally endangered rusty patch bumblebee. The seeds are eaten by birds. The Xerces Society lists this species as having special value to native bees, bumblebees, and honeybees.
